About Us and Your Background Investigation

Your background investigation will be conducted by FD Backgrounds.  

A pre-employment background investigation is not intended to be an intimidating experience or an unwarranted invasion into your privacy. Your background investigator will contact persons who know you, including present and/or former employers, and will examine official documents and records concerning you to ensure that you have been honest in your application and to fulfill the legal mandates imposed by the courts and legislature. The more forthright you have been, the greater the likelihood that your background can be completed in a timely and successful manner.

Your background investigation will include the following:

Applicant interview and review of PHS (Approx. 1 hours)

Employment Investigation- 10 years or more if necessary

Interviews with previous employers / Co-workers

Lateral Applicants - Interview with HR and Command Staff

Military verification

Criminal History – NCIC / FBI/ DMV / Nationwide courts

Family members, and associates, investigation

Civil Courts -    Nationwide search

Certification verification-EMS or Other

Child Protective Services check

Public Records – Nationwide search

                                    Property records

                                    Marriage / Divorce

                                    Licenses / Business / Liens /

                                    Foreclosures / Evictions

Insurance Claims – risk assessment databases

Credit and Financial Investigations

Social Media Investigations

Education- Review and verification of all education

Residence- Review and verification of all residences

We also look into each applicant's dimensions, commonly referred to as character traits. These dimensions include:

 INTERACTIONS WITH OTHERS       INTELLECTUALLY-BASED ABILITIES

Most background investigations will take about three weeks to complete. You will be notified by the Caledonia Fire Department when the background investigation is completed.

John Pallas (Deputy Chief, Retired—State of TN)

John Pallas is a 29-year law enforcement veteran who served as Deputy Chief of Police for the law enforcement division of the State of Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission. In that role, John supervised command staff, oversaw the professional standards unit and served as the public information officer and director of training. He also has more than two decades of service in California in various capacities, including Vice Detective, Narcotics Task Force Investigator, F.T.O. and Reserve Program Coordinator. John also managed a high-profile task force team of investigators, comprised of FBI, DEA, IRS agents, as well as state and city law enforcement officers.
